Well, I listen to just about everything ... including lots of country (however cheeeesy Paul!). By the way, I would appreciate an "objective" survey next time. I caught the undertones with Kenny Cheesney and Gag Brooks, don't think I didn't!

OK. Here are few of my favs RIGHT NOW.
New Shane and Shane (duh)
ERIC WILSON ... yall have to check him out. He is from Fort Worth and awesome! His album is called the Twenties. Every song is greatness.
JEWEL (Goodbye Alice and Wonderland)... those of you who know me well know that if I had to be anyone else but myself, I would hands down be her! If you want to know my life story just listen to her albums one by one, especially This Way (came out in 2001) and Goodbye Alice and Wonderland.

You can tell I love singer/songwriter/poets ... Eric and Jewel are heavy on lyrics and really speak to my soul. They normalize my issues for me and I listen to music like this when I want to be in constant DC (with myself) LOL.

I almost forgot PATTY GRIFFIN (if you don't already own all of her albums you should!)

Sorry for all the chicks, but for obvious reasons they tend to speak to my heartstrings a little better than the dudes.

LORI MCKENNA (her older albums are my fav) is awesome too.

If anyone else knows of some acoustic/folkish tunes, send them my way.

And guys, gives these ladies a shot. You just might fall in love. (and I'll keep your secret)

ROSIE THOMAS too! I keep thinking of all these not-as-well-known-as-they-should-be singer/songwriters.

Mike likes her too believe it or not.

I listen to: Mat Kearney (He is freaking excellent). I also like the Foo Fighters, who happen to be my favorite band. I love Incubus as well and I think the new band Evans Blue has a cool sound too.

I also like Caedmon's Call. I think I can listen to them anytime in any mood.

And I do like Rosie Thomas and I liked her before Crystal did!! She is pretty good too and her lyrics are fun and deep.

I like country music too, but not all of it. Paul is just intimidated by country music singers because they are so capable of being sensitive and putting their emotions into words J/K :)

Lastly, if I were to have music playing as I entered the cage it would have to be. . . . . anything by Breaking Benjamin. . . .

For those reading who don't know Brent- he's not an arrogant chuckster who seems flippant on the topic, but a sensitive young man that is so die hard Dave, it's ridiculous for him to state the obvious.
Nauseated is a better choice of words than intimidated as far as country goes. I think those that know me best know I'm calloused and have a stone heart incapable of any sort of sensitive talk...Mr. CageMan.

Since I think I'm in the right place I'll add my music choices.

I'm about 90% Shane and Shane if that tells you anything. I love the new cd. Throne of God is definitely a favorite, for I can listen to it anytime and feel lifted up. I think though my favorite 15 seconds of song, though, is in Wounded when he screams HOW LOOOOONG over and over. I won't bore you with the details of what all that means to me, but it silences me and creates in me a longing for Home.
Like Mike I love Caedmon's Call, but have to say their newest cd absolutely sucks- so go for older stuff.
Bebo still and always will have a place in my musical escapes.
I love slow Crowder and the wealth and depth of his lyrics that reak of a longing to be with Jesus.

In the spirit of how music is vital in dealing with our issues, I'll close with a quote:

If darkest night is upon you as you read these words, know that the risen Jesus is wild about you, even if you can'tfeel it. Listen beneath your pain for the voice of Abba God: "Make ready for my Christ whose smile, like lightning, sets free the SONG of everlasting glory that now sleeps in your paper flesh like dynamite."

Enter the Worship Circle by Waterdeep and 1000 Portraits is my favorite worship music of all time. (2nd, 3rd, 4th circles are great too) Go check 'em out!

Thanks for the review of the new Caedmons.

and to PREFACE. I was kidding with Rachel about where to place her post. I really am not that sarcastic and easily annoyed. I could be the most off topic person ever.

Do yall use Itunes? or something like Limewire?

I feel like I never have time to listen to music. That may sound strange to many people. Right at this very moment I only have one CD in my car-Amy Grant's Greatest Hits. I came across it looking for Christmas CDs in my house and got an urge to listen to Everywhere I Go. I rarely listen to the radio because I can't stand commercials and the radio commentators. I don't own an iPod because I hate things in my ears.

Whenever I do listen to music, it is either Shawn Macdonald, Shane and Shane, or a mix CD of all different kinds of praise music. I too love David Crowder. He and Shane and Shane make me gasp for air sometimes and mirror some of my innermost trembling thoughts.

Goo Goo Dolls, Hootie and the Blowfish, U2, Staind, and Rob Thomas are also some of my favorites. Nickelback probably at this point in my life beats all the rock bands out for me. Their mainstream songs do it for me.

Ok, ok...I Love cheesy music. Geof bought me Lionel Richie's greatest hits for our anniversay and I loved it and he was taken aback at the fact I new practically every word. I also love Enrigue Iglesias' new album and totally love Celine Dion's new single. I can't help but love sappy feel good love music. I'm a sucker for a sweet love song or a heart breaking ballad.

here's a few (term used liberally) you might want to check out...
spawn of the beast by fionn o lochlainn. it sounds hard, but it's somewhere between the beatles and led zeppelin.
in our nature by jose gonzalez. swedish kid, him and a guitar and some thought provoking lyrics.
Legs to make us longer by kaki king. twenty something guitarist who's utterly amazing, check her out on youtube.
till the sun turns black by ray lamontagne. just some guy that worked in a factory and heard an otis redding album and decided to make his own. he's got a very smoky and soulful voice.
( ) by Sigur Ros. icelandic band singing mostly in icelandic but they also throw in some gibberish, but the music is amazing. they play guitars with cello bows and have a lot of strings and the lead singer's voice is gorgeous in a falsetto sort of way.
poetry and aeroplanes by teitur. lyrically a bit depressing, but for some reason it cheers me up.
and grace by jeff buckley because i've yet to hear another man with a range of three octaves.

Sooooo good to hear from you Liz. I had to laugh while reading and picturing myself discussing Poetry and Aeroplanes by Teitur with one of my depressed students...

Crystal D. said...

Yay Liz for good music. Love it. I will check them out.

Rachel, you should get an ipod and get the hook up for your car! I hate things in my ears too, and also dont like the radio. I do playlists on my ipod and can listen to it while in my car. I also play it on my computer through itunes while I'm on it for hours making books. Get Geof to hook you up.

Love you.

... and I forgot how much you really love the cheese, Rach. It makes me laugh and remember seeing Titanic with you when I was in HS and we played Celion on the way home so loud and cried (bawled our head off)!!! LOL. That's a great memory for me.

OK..I'm late to the date. Just found out from Chris last night about this blog. There's so much I want to comment on but this is an easy one for now. Petey just named most of them. My iPOD constists of 3 section - 80's rock...lot's of Bon Jovi and Van Halen; Christian...favorites are Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman; and country, of course! Love Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, and Rascal Flatts. If Chesney is cheesy, I can only imagine the comments on Rascal Flatts, but I love 'em!

palzo33 said...

What a deal!!! Wendy has entered the blogosphere and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for posting, Wendy, and I look forward to much more from you.
